Module 4 Objectives

As trusted adults working in communities, frontline practitioners are often the first group of professionals that community members contact to discuss their concerns. There may be many different reasons why a community member decides to reach out to you specifically, including your existing relationship with that person or your professional position within the community. Regardless of the reason, it’s important to recognize that how you react to individuals who share information can impact their willingness to share information in the future. This module provides additional information you should consider as a frontline practitioner, since you are likely to receive information from others who see, hear, or learn about concerning behaviors.

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • Explain your mandated reporting responsibilities per state laws
  • Identify when someone may be experiencing discomfort sharing information with you and how to overcome these barriers
  • Describe what you should do when receiving information from others
