Trauma is often a component in persons involved with targeted and extremist violence. Trauma should always be assessed and if present should be addressed through trauma-informed, evidence-based or best practices anchored in socio-ecological and public health models.
Targeted violence prevention includes a focus on multiple different sub-populations. We are concerned with helping people reduce the risk for future violence for youth and young adults who are either convicted of crimes related to TVT, at-risk for involvement in TVT, or vulnerable to involvement due in part to mental health or psychosocial problems. Mental health specialists may be involved in working with any of those. We want to share some additional information on lessons learned from working with relevant populations and problems.
