Module 3 Objectives

Mental health specialists play important roles in providing intervention services to individuals at risk for targeted violence. In many cases, the provision of such services means transferring or translating the clinical skills you already possess and utilizing them in your work with this specific population. In this module we will address the process of moving from Assessment to Treatment Planning to Intervention. The module will also explore some specific issues that may arise in the process of providing mental health services to this population.

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • Recognize the different roles that mental health treatments can play in improving an individual’s well-being and preventing targeted violence.
  • Identify if a person is an imminent risk for violence and should be immediately reported to law enforcement.
  • Apply intervention models and strategies with a focus on people at risk for targeted violence.
